Moved into my ‘apartment’ aka box, it’s tiny and rather needs to be cleaned. Don’t yet have internet in the box either but hopefully I will have internet soon.

Bus arrived in Chicago just after 8 am. Made it past the ticket counter and security in record time, first time I’ve manage to not set off a metal detector. Now I just have to wait 3+ hours for my 1:10 flight to Washington.

Several delays any many many hours later I arrived in Amsterdam Airport. Then onto a train to Amsterdam central station. I spent the next few hours walking around down town Amsterdam. The architecture, stores, and people are simply amazing. After a short search for lodging I decided that I would fare better heading to Arnhem. The Arnhem school of business campus is closed for the weekend but I stopped by to check it out anyways. After some exploring I happened upon the Stay Ok hostel, and have deiced to lodge there for two nights. Until Monday when I will finally get to see and use the ‘Apartment’ that I will be living in for the next year.

First night in the Stay Okay went well. Met some fellow travels and got a good nights sleep. Finding free internet is proving to be very difficult, it will be nice once I finally have my own place with a stable internet connection.

In about one hour, so nervous and excited that I don’t stand a chance at sleeping. I will board a bus, at 6 am bound for O-hair Airport in Chicago. From Chicago I fly to DC, hop on another plane 11+ hours later land in Amsterdam on Aug 1st around 8am. Then it’s onto a train to Arnhem… that is if all goes according to plan.

Also just found out that the company that I paid a ton of $$$ for housing wont let me move in until Monday (Aug 3rd) Even though my lease starts Aug 1st (the day that I land in Amsterdam) So now I must find a place to crash for two nights hopefully without breaking the bank… If you know a place where I could crash in Amsterdam, or Arnhem please post a comment.

Wish me luck, I’ll do my best to keep you all updated.

An article about me receiving the Gilman Scholarship:

UW-Whitewater: Edgerton native Scot Inscore earns national study abroad scholarship
6/26/2009

WHITEWATER Senior Scot Inscore of Edgerton is one step closer to his goal of starting an international company after receiving a $5,000 study abroad scholarship from the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and the Institute of International Education.

The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship is a congressionally funded program that offered 850 scholarships this year. The program gives students who might not otherwise have the opportunity to study abroad, because of financial or other reasons, the chance to travel internationally.

³It is wonderful that UW-Whitewater has a student that was recognized by the Gilman Program,² said Lois Smith, interim dean of the College of Business and Economics.

Inscore¹s travels will take him to the Arnhem Business School in the Netherlands for 10 months. While abroad he plans to take business classes and travel across Europe.

After graduation, Inscore plans to start his own international technology company. He hopes taking international business classes while abroad will give him valuable insight into the business practices of other countries to help him operate an international business.

³I am excited to have the opportunity to have this experience and will use the Gilman Scholarship to become a better global citizen,² Inscore said.

All Gilman Scholarship recipients must complete a Follow-on Service Project when they return home that promotes international education and/or the Gilman Scholarship Program.

For his project, Inscore plans to give a speech about his experiences abroad. He also created a travel blog to document his experiences in Europe that he hopes will inspire others to study abroad.

³I expect that it will be challenging and at times even stressful, but it will be a very rewarding experience,² Inscore said.

Welcome to ScotIncore.com the purpose of this site is to document my study abroad experience funded in part by the Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship.  In just a few months time I will be leaving to start my study abroad experience at the Arnhem School of Business in the Netherlands.  It is my hope and goal that via this experience I will gain knowledge and cultural experience that will not only help me to succeeded in international business but to become a better global citizen as well.

During my travels and study abroad experience I will update this website frequently. Providing insight into the daily experience of a study abroad student. It is my hope that this information will enrich my fellow University of Wisconsin Whitewater students, and all students else where, as well as encourage them to pursue study abroad experiences for themselves.  Students can also interact with me by posting comments, asking questions, etc.

I hope that you will find my site interesting and check back often to learn about my progress and experiences. Please feel free to share this site with others so that they too can learn of, learn from, and hopefully be inspired by my experience.

Thanks for visiting,

Scot Inscore
